Catering for a Cause: How Food Brought 300 Singaporeans Together

On August 16, 2025, Dabao Singapore had the honor of catering Singapore's 60th National Day celebration in San Francisco. Hosted at the Grand Hyatt SFO and organized by the Singapore Consulate-General and Singapore Global Network, the event brought together over 300 Singaporeans from across the Bay Area.

We served up a full spread: Beef Rendang, Chap Chye, Laksa, Chicken Rice, and all the trimmings. The kind of feast that reminds you of home. Trays were scraped clean. One guest hovered near the rendang, eating straight from the pan (we don't judge). Another asked to take a full tray home. The vibe? Warm, nostalgic, and deeply Singaporean.

Behind the scenes, it was a marathon. Our kitchen team started prep at 5:30 AM, powered by weeks of planning and a lot of strong coffee. Chef Emily's cousin even flew in and joined the crew, and guest chef Jin Chua of Fins & Feathers lent a hand. Community showed up in every way.

This wasn’t just another catering gig. It was a celebration of culture, food, and the people who keep Singaporean flavors alive in the Bay. We met students, families, first-time attendees, and longtime supporters who’ve been with us since the pandemic.

It reminded us why we do what we do. Food brings people together. And on National Day, it brought our entire community together in the most delicious way.
