The Dish That Launched a Thousand Cravings: Prawn Mee at Dabao

Prawn Mee at Dabao Singapore

When we first added Prawn Mee to the Dabao Singapore menu, we weren’t sure what to expect. Would San Francisco know what to do with this beloved Singaporean noodle bowl? Turns out, yes. Very much yes.

Prawn Mee — or Hae Mee, as it’s known back home — is one of the most iconic dishes in Singaporean hawker culture. Ours comes in two styles: dry (with sauce-coated noodles and a bowl of broth on the side), or soup (noodles soaking in a rich, umami-packed shrimp and pork broth). Both versions are topped with pork slices, juicy prawns, bean sprouts, and crispy fried shallots. And yes, there’s chili powder on the side, because of course there is.

Since launching the dish in early July, we’ve seen it fly off the shelves. Regulars rave about the depth of the broth and the perfect texture of the noodles. Some customers slurp the soup solo. Others pour it over everything and mix. However you eat it, this dish is quickly becoming a Dabao staple.

Prawn Mee has always been a comfort food for our founder, Chef Emily — the kind of dish you crave when you're far from home. It’s rich, warming, and a little nostalgic. For many Singaporeans, it tastes like growing up.

We love seeing how our San Francisco community has embraced it. Whether you’re Singaporean, Southeast Asian, or totally new to the cuisine, there’s something about Prawn Mee that just hits.

So if you haven’t tried it yet, this is your sign. We make our broth from scratch, serve it fresh daily, and yes, we even have a meal kit version so you can slurp in your pajamas.
